Puppy Chow

Puppy chow is a classic that you might recognize from the snack aisle in the grocery store or from a big bowl in the middle of the coffee table at a holiday party. From the peanut butter and chocolate combo to the powdered sugar coating, it's impossible to stop snacking on this stuff! Not to mention, it truly makes the best holiday gift ;)
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 6 cups
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Chex Rice Cereal (258g)
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips (170g)
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp creamy peanut butter (149g)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (57g)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (180g)

Method

  1. Add all of the Chex cereal to a large mixing bowl
  2. Add the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir very well until it’s all melted and smooth. If you need to heat it more, do so in 20-second increments, stirring well in between.
  3. Pour the melted chocolate over the Chex cereal and toss it incredibly well until every Chex piece is covered in the chocolate.
  4. Add the powdered sugar and toss it all together until the powdered sugar coats all of the pieces. If you’d like to add more powdered sugar, go for it! I find that 180g is perfect.
  5. Place parchment paper on a flat surface and spread the puppy chow on top of the parchment so that they aren’t overlapping too much.
  6. Allow the puppy chow to dry/solidify a bit (5-8 minutes) before scooping it into your mason jars.
