Sweet & Salty Halloween Pretzel Mix

The easiest Halloween movie night snack with the perfect mix of salty and sweet.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 5 ¼ cups Snyders pretzel "snaps" (half of a family sized bag or 227g)
  • 1 bag Wilton orange candy melts (340g)
  • 1 bag Wilton black candy melts (340g)
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Pre-popped popcorn to taste (pre-popped popcorn is necessary to ensure it doesn't go stale too quickly. I like the LesserEvil brand)
  • 1 ¼ cup Peanut M&M's (10oz bag or 284g)
  • 1 ¼ cup Regular M&M's (10oz bag or 284g)

Method

  1. Place a large piece of parchment paper on top of your counter
  2. Pour the pretzels on the parchment paper and spread them out so that they are laying flat and aren't overlapping too much
  3. Grab two microwave-safe bowls and pour the orange candy melts into one and the black candy melts into the other. Follow the heating instructions on the candy melt packages until they're melted and smooth
  4. Pour the melted candy melts into piping bags and cut a small piece off from the tip of both piping bags
  5. Drizzle that all over the pretzels so that it creates a messy orange and and black pattern
  6. While the melted candy melts are still soft, sprinkle Halloween themed sprinkles over top
  7. Allow the melts to harden before breaking the pretzels up into chunks
  8. Lastly, mix the pretzels with popcorn and M&M's and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Wilton Candy Melts: The brand of candy melts that you use is actually important even though they all look the same. I have tried many brands over the years and none of them have that smooth consistency quite like Wilton. You can use any colors that you would like, however, the black & orange are perfect for Halloween!

  2. Pre-popped Popcorn: The reason I suggest using pre-popped popcorn as opposed to the popcorn that you pop yourself in the microwave is because the microwave popcorn turns stale within 20 minutes if you leave it sitting out. Since this snack is meant to be mixed together in a large bowl and served to many people, it is likely that you will not eat it all within that 20 minute period. The pre-popped popcorn (I prefer LesserEvil) will last a bit longer and will keep that crispy texture longer which is what you want!
  3. Candy Options: Though I prefer an even mix of the peanut and regular M&M’s, you can really add any chocolate candies that you would like! Some good options are Rolos, mini Reese’s cups, and Reese’s pieces.
